As part of National Osteoporosis Day in October we ran two DEXA screening days. One on Sat 24th October and, due to popular demand, another on Sat 31st October.
In all 16 patients took part and had their bone density measured. Of these patients 4 were found to be of normal range, 8 were found to be in Osteopaenic range (at risk of developing Osteoporosis), and 4 were found to have overt Osteoporosis. Those found to have Osteopaenia or Osteoporosis were asked to consult their GP. Certainly the 25% found to have Osteoporosis will now be able to get appropriate treatment for fracture prevention.
The DEXA screening days were such a success, we are going to offer them more regularly throughout the year.
